An energy-efficient heat point on Vasiliyevsky Island

Modernization of the 41 Morskaya embankment heat point has started on Vasiliyevsky Island. It will be reconstructed completely and transformed into a mixing/pumping station. This project is implemented in the framework of the integral program of JSC St. PetersburgHeatingGrid for modernization of central heat points, and Vasiliyevsky Island is the first area.

All engineering work at the power facility will be done without any interruption of the power supply to consumers with all the regulated parameters in place. At present, a temporary pipeline is being built quickly that will supply hot water to nearby buildings during reconstruction. There are 16 20-storied residential buildings connected to this heat point.

Already this summer, it is planned to install modern equipment so that local residents can enjoy a new quality of power supply from the start of the upcoming heating season. The updated heat point will provide for stable hydraulic conditions and water temperature for hot water supply. A filter system will provide for a better quality of water cleaning.

According to Igor Strenadko, Chief Engineer, JSC St. PetersburgHeatingGrid, the facility will be completely automated. The project includes installation of completely new pumping machinery with a frequency control system. This will optimize the operation of machines as the rotation frequency of electric pump engines will be changed automatically according to the power consumption dynamics, primarily at night and other times when the heating agent consumption goes down naturally.

Energy efficient technologies enable St. Petersburg power companies to use electric power in a rational way. According to the Chief Engineer of Teploset, the power costs will go down by 25 - 30%. "Energy efficiency has become an essential need these days," says Igor Strenadko. "There is a right saying that you must start with yourself. Development of rational consumption at our own premises is a priority of our work."

"Modernization of the heat infrastructure does not just mean better reliability and quality of power supply; it is also a powerful cost-cutting tool. This is what the work of JSC St. PetersburgHeatingGrid is mainly about," says Evgeniy Hachaturov, Director General of the Company.

In 2012, it is planned to transform the 116 Bukharestskaya Street heat point into a mixing/pumping station, which will also raise its energy efficiency.
